Tayf al-Khayal

Tayf al-Khayal

Most of the authors of the Fihrists have mentioned this book among Murtada's works. SayyidMurtada wrote this book after al-Shahab[۱]; and similar to that book, in this work he has studied and presented the couplets concerning semantics and figurative expressions and has chosen the best of them and criticizing Amadi in regard with the esthetic aspects. Concerning the issue of Tayf (poetic imagery) from the viewpoint of esthetics and semantics and figurative expressions, Sayyid has compiled ۲۲۰ couplets from the poems by Abu Tamam, about the same number of couplets from his brother's (Razi) poems, a lot of couplets from Bahtari's poems, ۳۲۵ couplets from his own poems and also numerous couplets from other poets' poems.[۲] This book was once published in Egypt in ۱۳۷۴ AH based on the copy existing in Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyyah (which is in turn a copy from the manuscript in the Escorial Library), with the call number ۱۰۳۱۳; the book was also published for the second time in Baghdad in ۱۹۵۸ (A.D) in the Matba'ah Dar al-Ma'rifah.
