Amali al-Murtada

Amali al-Murtada

The author of Riyaz al-'Ulama has described a number of the copies of this book. Also, there are a number of the copies among the manuscripts in the Library of the Astan Quds Razawi, which are different from the copies printed in Iran, in terms of the number of the meetings and order of the chapters.[۱]

This book has an appendix, and the author of Adab al-Murtada states to have seen its copy (written by Fazlullah ibn Ali al-Hussayni Ibn al-Reza in ۵۵۵ AH) possessed by ShaykhMuhammad Reza Farajollah.

Along with its appendix, the book titled as Duraral-Qala'id waGhuraral-Fawa'id was published in Tehran in ۱۲۷۳ AH; further, it was published without the appendix titled as Amali al-Murtada in ۱۳۲۵ AH in Egypt in Matba'at al-Sa'adah, annotated by SayyidMuhammad Badr al-Din al-Na'sani al-Halabi and Sayyid Ahmad Amin al-Shinqiti. Recently, a copy of this book has been published in Egypt in a scholarly manner based on five copies of the book by the scholar Muhammad Abulfadl Ibrahim.

The author of Adab al-Murtada states: Sharif Murtada's Amali has a contemporary annotation titled as al-Fawa'id al-Ghawali fi Sharh Shawahid al-Amali, which was written by the noble scholar ShaykhMuhammad Muhsen ibn al-Shaykh Sharif Jawahiri Najafi (d. ۱۳۵۵ AH). The author of Adab al-Murtada, further, states to have seen the manuscript in ۱۹۵۵ (A.D) possessed by the Shaykh's son, ShaykhMuhammad Hasan. This annotation is in four large-size volumes, containing more than two thousand pages, and like Amali, it includes issues of interpretation, literature, history and language.

Since in some cases the book includes admirations concerning Sharif and praying for the protraction of his life, some scholars believe it to have been written by Sayyed's students; still others think the book has been written by Sayyid himself; however, the author of Adab al-Murtadastates: the style of the writing of the book reveals that the writings and compilations of the book both have been performed by Sayyid, himself. The only part to be attributed to the students is the honor of quoting from Sayyid and reciting him the notes they had taken. If the book had not been written and compiled by Sayyid, it would have a different style; while this is not the case and the style of the book is the same as Sayyid's style in his other books. The admirations and praying for Sayyid Sharif might have been his students' contribution, added by them to the text at the beginning of each discussion, in order to distinguish Sayyid's words from what he quoted from others.

Most of the quotations by Sayyid in this book are from his teacher, Marzbani, who is a famous character. Meanwhile, Sayyid also quotes from two other characters that are not famous: Ali ibnMuhammad al-Katib and Abu al-Qasim 'Ubaidullah ibn Uthman ibn Junaiqa al-Daqqaq.
