A Study on Sayyid Murtada's Interpretation Style Based on the Scientific, Literary and Theological Evidences
The interpretation style refers to various trends in the interpretation of the Qur'an, which is sometimes referred to as: theological interpretation, educational interpretation, moral interpretation, etc. The present article is a study on three tendencies in the interpretation, including the scientific, literary and theological ones by Sayyid Murtada 'Alam al-Huda, manifested in his work known as Al-Amaali or Ghorar ol-Fawaa'id and Dorar ol-Ghalaa'id. In his interpretation style, Sayyid Murtada interpreted some of the Qur'anic verses based on their connotations or according to the scientific evidences; meanwhile, he interpreted some other verses based on the styles of expression in the Arab culture and language. Still, he interpreted a third group of the Qur'anic verses, not included in the previous mentioned styles, based on their implications. His scientific approach in the interpretation of the Qur'an secured him from imposing his personal views. Furthermore, presenting new questions in concern with the Qur'an played a considerable role for him in creating variability and highlighting various tendencies in the interpretation. The variety in Sayyid Murtada's style of interpretation saved him from being caught in doubts; meanwhile, it helped him to deal with the issues through firm argumentations. The research approach in this study was a descriptive one, through the use of library sources and documents.
