Sayyid Murtada in the Sunnites' Sources and Texts
The present article deals with the view of the Sunnite scholars about Sayyid Murtada (one of the Shiite scholars in the fourth century After Hijrah). It deals with the followings:
a. Sayyid Murtada was the older brother of Sayyid Radi (who compiled Nahj ol-Balaaghah). Sayyid Murtada was born in ۳۵۵ in Baghdad and passed away in ۴۳۶ (After Hijrah). His paternal lineage reaches to Imam Kazim PBUH and his maternal lineage reaches to Imam Zain ol-'Abidin PBUH.
b. The Sunnite historians have named a number of the outstanding figures of the fourth century who were Sayyid Murtada's teachers, or Sayyid Murtada narrated traditions from them. Furthermore, he trained many students, each of whom is an important character in the history of Islam and the Shiite culture.
c. Sayyid Murtada has different works in the rational and tradition fields. These works have been noticed by the Sunnite scholars and some of the works have been praised by them.
d. Sayyid Murtada enjoys a high scientific and social status in view of the Sunnite scholars. Some of the Sunnite scholars have considered him among the outstanding figures of the fourth century and they have introduced him as a knowledgeable scholar, studious person, literary figure, eloquent poet, faqih, theologian, imam, insistent in reciting the Qur'an, and the one who kept vigil for the night prayer.
