Sayyid Murtada’s Interpretation Approach
Sayyid Murtada has not interpreted all the verses of the Qur’an; rather he has dealt with complicated and ambiguous ones. In most of the cases before the interpretation of the Qur’an, he refers to the ambiguities or the particular issue to be dealt with in the verses through using the term “fa qaala” (so he said). The ambiguities are because of rational issues, theological issues, literary issues, propositional contradiction between the verses, etc. Then he starts his answer by the term “javab” (answer). His answers are based on different approaches including: literary and theological approaches and appealing to the Qur’an, poems, traditions, and the situational context of the verses, etc.
