The Consensus of the Former Scholars Concerning the Isolated Traditions and the Contrast between Sayyid Murtada’s and Sheikh Tusi’s Views

One of the issues of dispute among the scholars of osul about the acceptability of the isolated traditions is the discussion of the consensus of the former scholars concerning such traditions. This issue has been one of the major discussions in the recent centuries in the field of osul because of the difference between the views of two outstanding current Shiite scholars, i.e. Sayyid Murtada and Sheikh Tusi, in this regard. This discussion has also a vital role in the historical study of the Shiism and the analysis of the Shiites scholars’ approach in dealing with the traditions in various discussions.

The present article comprehensively studies Sayyid Murtada’s and Sheikh Tusi’s views in this regard. Then, the attempts made by the following osul scholars to remove the contrast or reject one view in favor of the other are dealt with in order to conclude that removing the contrast and finding a sound consensus does not depend on numerous abstract analyses made by the next osul scholars; rather, the solution lies in a more accurate study of the proponents of consensus.
