Sayyid Murtada and the Dispute of Moderation of the Qur’an by means of Isolated Traditions
The Qur’an is the most trustworthy religious text among the Muslims and the isolated traditions are the most general and prevalent evidences in the Islamic fiqh. These two fiqh sources do not always agree with each other. Therefore in a number of cases, the regulation for a state of affairs in the Qur’an varies from the specific regulation considered for that case in (not-widely transmitted) traditions narrated from the infallible imams PBUT. Concerning the moderation of the Qur’anic regulations by means of isolated traditions, there are two views: possibility and impossibility. Among the Imamiyah scholars, the first proponent of the impossibility view is believed to be Sayyid Murtada; however, since Sayyid Murtada did not consider isolated traditions credible, it seems that viewing him as involved in any side of this dispute is pointless. His words support the mentioned idea.
