A Number of Sayyid Murtada’s Views in Qu’anic Sciences
Sayyid Murtada was one of the Shiite scholars in the fourth and fifth century (After Hijrah), who was outstanding in various sciences including fiqh, principles of fiqh, Arabic literature, poetry, hadith and interpretation of the Qur’an. Among his considerable views, one can refer to his views concerning the interpretation of the Qur’an. Some of his valuable views in this regard are related to: compilation of the Qur’an, temporality or eternity of the Qur’an, quality of its descent, challenge of the Qur’an, understanding the miracle of the Qur’an, and interpretation of some of the ambiguous Qur’anic verses. He believed that the Qur’an was compiled at the age of the prophet PBUH. The Qur’an is neither temporal nor eternal; rather it is an object. The descent of the Qur’an has been gradual rather than all at once. Furthermore, it was the external interference of God that prohibited the confrontation of the opponents from enmity against the Qur’an (the theory of Sarfah), rather than the inability of the Arab literates in producing similar texts.
